CHV2O – Civics and Citizenship empowers students to understand their role in shaping Canadian society through informed decision-making, civic engagement, and social responsibility. This course explores the foundations of democracy, the structure of government, and the importance of active participation in building a just and equitable society.
Students investigate how individuals and groups influence public policy, advocate for change, and contribute to the well-being of their communities. Through discussions, case studies, and interactive projects, students examine real-world issues—ranging from voting and media literacy to human rights and public policy—and learn how civic action can lead to meaningful social change.
The course also provides insight into how laws are made, how governments operate, and how citizens can engage with political and legal systems. By analyzing diverse perspectives and current events, students strengthen their critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.
By the end of CHV2O, students gain not only an understanding of how Canada’s political and legal institutions function, but also a deeper sense of personal agency and responsibility. They leave the course with the tools and mindset to participate actively and ethically in their communities—locally, nationally, and globally.
