ENG2D – Grade 10 English builds on students’ foundational literacy and communication skills through a rich exploration of classic and contemporary texts. From Shakespearean drama to modern media, this course challenges students to think critically, read analytically, and express themselves with clarity and confidence.
Throughout the course, students engage with a variety of text forms—literary, informational, and visual—to develop a deeper understanding of narrative structure, persuasive technique, and stylistic choices. They examine how authors and creators communicate meaning, shape audience perception, and reflect cultural and historical contexts.
Writing is a major focus in ENG2D. Students refine their ability to organize ideas, support arguments with evidence, and tailor their tone and style for different audiences. They practice crafting descriptive passages, expository essays, and analytical responses, while learning grammar, sentence fluency, and the conventions of academic writing.
The course also emphasizes media literacy and digital communication, helping students navigate and critique the messages they encounter in their everyday lives. By analyzing advertising, online discourse, and media bias, students become more informed and responsible consumers of information.
ENG2D equips students with the skills needed for academic success, thoughtful citizenship, and real-world communication. It lays the groundwork for advanced English studies while fostering a lifelong appreciation for literature, language, and self-expression.
